Working across film, collage and sound, Nadia Shihab engages with personal and diasporic histories to explore the ways alternate narratives can be found through the rearrangement of fragmented ones.

She worked as a community practitioner for over a decade before directing her feature-length debut, JADDOLAND, a personal documentary set in her mother Lahib Jaddo's home in Texas. The film was awarded five festival jury awards, including an IFP Independent Spirit Award in 2020.

She is the recipient of fellowships and awards from the Sundance Documentary Fund, Center for Asian American Media, Firelight Media, and Tribeca Film Institute, and has held residencies at the MacDowell Colony and Djerassi Residency. Screenings and exhibitions include the Centre Pompidou, Walker Art Center, Arab American National Museum, DOXA, Kassel Dokfest, CAAMFest, LA Asian Pacific Film Festival, Ashland Independent Film Festival, Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival, and New Orleans Film Festival.

She was raised in the Texas panhandle by immigrant parents from Iraq & Yemen, and lives and works in Oakland, California.
