Public Discourse Artists join Art Practice about 6-8 times per year to meet with Graduate Students in their studios, to meet with faculty, and to give public lectures about their work at the Berkeley Art Museum. Endowed by the Wiesenfeld Family Foundation, the lecture series is curated by Prof. Asma Kazmi and Prof. Kenyatta A.C. Hinkle. A downloadable pdf poster of the current lecture series is usually linked here.

The Art Practice lecture series included the following speakers in the recent past:

Spring 2019 A. Laurie Palmer, Morehshin Allahyari, Rhonda Holberton, Haroon Mirza, Rashaad Newsome, Nicki Green [MFA 2019]

Fall 2018 Aruna D’Souza, Charles Gaines, Kerry Tribe, Kelani Nicole, Shuddhabrata Sengupta (Raqs Media Collective), Shimon Attie

Spring 2018 Emily Jacir, Irena Haiduk, Ian Cheng [B.A. 2007], Takming Chuang [M.F.A. 2018], Mimi Lauter, Lecia Dole-Recio, Kenyattta A.C. Hinckle, Lavar Munroe

Spring 2017Jackie Sumell, Mark Brest Van Kempen, Ashley Hunt, Jose Joaquin Figueroa

All lectures are free and open to the public. Because artists depend on lectures to support their practice, their speaking fees are high. A lecture can cost up to $50.00 per participant. This seems high, but the right lecture can inspire a person for a lifetime. While the lecture series has a flagship endowment, donations help pay for staff time, travel and honoraria. To support this lecture series, use the little green Donate button and specify “Lecture Series”.
