Gallery Assistant

This is an unpaid position offered for 1-4 credits per semester. Students must be available to meet in-person Wednesdays 12:00-1:00 for a weekly meeting that includes skills-based trainings and occasional guest speakers. Other in-person gallery-sitting hours can be scheduled according to student's availability. All students, regardless of department, are eligible to apply.

Description

The Gallery Assistant will gain hands-on experience working in an art gallery environment in the Department of Art Practice. Students will have the opportunity to learn a number of skills, including:

• Installing and de-installing works of art in all media
• Assisting student and professional artists
• Patching and painting walls and using tools
• Opening the gallery and welcoming visitors
• Planning and hosting art openings and events
• Marketing exhibitions, including writing
• Photographing art exhibitions and receptions
• Maintaining the equipment inventory
• Cleaning and organizing
