Assistant Professor in Printmaking Job Talk: Iman Djouini

MFA Printmaking, Tulane University, New Orleans
BA Painting and Art History, The Maryland Institute College of Art

Iman Djouini (b. Algiers, Algeria) is an artist and educator who works primarily in printmaking and print media, book arts, public art, hybrid print+digital fabrication, and typography. Her research-based practice explores gender and postcolonial spatial relations and the intersections of identity, culture, economy, and politics. Recent works examine how language and design can be tools, used to shape perception in contested cultural and political histories. Djouini has developed civic and public art projects in Baltimore City and New Orleans and has also curated numerous exhibitions of contemporary art. Valuing the importance of teaching, Djouini lectures and leads courses that nurture a critical dialogue with the next generation of artists, designers, and thinkers. She is an Assistant Teaching Professor and Director of the Social Print Lab, a student-led civic design studio at the University of California Santa Barbara.
