Spring 2021 Ceramics Visiting Artist Lecture Series Presents:

Gerardo Monterrubio

Gerardo Monterrubio is a Los Angeles-based artist working primarily with clay. Monterrubio’s practice stems from the rich history of the vessel: its narrative-telling and recording art historical context is at the foundation of his practice. His works portray contemporary, and similarly anthropological, studies of his observations of the world. Monterrubio uses his ceramic sculptures as canvases for elaborately rendered images influenced by myth, history, religion, and the human imagination that are at the foundation of cultural paradigms.

Monterrubio earned a BFA from California State University, Long Beach, and an MFA from the University of California, Los Angeles."

The Spring 2021 Ceramics Visiting Artist Lecture Series is organized by Ceramics Lecturer Nick Green, for the courses ART15 and ART137. Open to all UC Berkeley students. For more information and Zoom link, contact nickigreen@berkeley.edu
