What is a lamp?

What is a smart lamp?

What is a light that sees us?

Each artist in the Lights That See Us exhibition considered these questions and spent the first half of the semester living with and observing their experience of a smart lightbulb–a bulb that is connected to wifi, controllable through an app, and provides functions beyond that of a conventional bulb.

This initial experiment was a first step in considering the implications of new, networked, "smart" technology and how it impacts us individually and collectively. For this exhibition, each artist expanded on their initial experiment with their smart lightbulb, and in some cases moved away from the lightbulb altogether.
