Artist Talk: Raman Djafari

Raman Djafari, 2023

Internationally renowned and honored animator Raman Djafari will give an online webinar lecture on their art and his purpose.

Raman Djafari is an illustrator, animator and filmmaker working in both 2D and 3D, currently living in Berlin, Germany. Through colorful imagery and fragmented narratives they hope to reach into a realm of honest emotionality and willful fragility, creating surreal worlds and characters that oscillate between the familiar and the fantastical. Raman has directed music videos for artists from across the globe. They are known for animating and directing some of the most graceful and impactful music videos of the last 4 years, including Dua Lipa and Elton John’s “Cold Heart” and more recently Ashnikko’s “Worms”. Cold Heart has been viewed over half a billion times.

Their extensive portfolio also includes projects with other clients like Adult Swim, Medium and The New Yorker. Currently they are represented as a director by the London based animation studio BlinkInk. In addition to work for clients, Raman also produces compelling artworks supporting queer culture and the ongoing fight against racism.

In their Berkeley talk, Raman Djafari will discuss their creative process, what propels them, and what lies ahead.

To participate, join the zoom link below on Tuesday March 12 at 9 am.

Note the early morning time, 9 am, due to the fact that Raman will join us from Berlin, Germany.
