Space Science Week 2026 Keynote: An Instrument Nature Can Play

Jewel
March 19, 2026

Registration is not required for the virtual keynote lecture. The livestream information will be posted via the link closer to the event.

In this Space Science Week keynote, singer and artist Jewel explores how creativity can transform the way we experience and understand our world. Drawing on NASA, NOAA, NSF, and USGS open science data and her own artistic practice, Jewel reveals how art and science together can make invisible systems visible, abstract data tangible, and passive observers into active participants. She’ll be joined in conversation by Greg Niemeyer (UC Berkeley) and Chelle Gentemann (NASA) to discuss what happens when curiosity crosses disciplinary boundaries — and why that collision may be exactly what our planet needs right now.

This special event is organized by the Aeronautics, Space, and Astronomy Program, Center for Advancing Science and Technology of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, in collaboration with Cultural Programs of the National Academy of Sciences.
