SHOW YOUR WORK AT THE WORTH RYDER ART GALLERY!

CALL FOR PROPOSALS of Student Work:  SEIZE THE MEANS”

All UC Berkeley Students are invited to propose an artwork, a small series, or any other creative project for exhibition in the Worth Ryder Art Gallery. Taking cues from last year’s successful exhibition I Know What You Did Last Summer, Seize the Means will present student work created by and for themselves, outside of the context of the classroom.

The title Seize the Means is linked to the theme of the Department of Art Practice’s Visiting Artist Lecture Series – October, 2017 will be the 100th anniversary of the October Revolution of 1917 in Russia. In the year leading up to this anniversary, we are considering how the groundwork was laid for this radical change, the role of artists in the revolution, and the relevancy of these events to today’s struggles.

That said, students are encouraged to consider the theme implied by this title very broadly there is a place for your work in this show, no matter your interests! We are excited about work that is performative, and there are no restrictions on medium or content. This exhibition is conceived of as a way to start a critical conversation among your peers. Show everyone what is important to you, and how you have seized the means of production!

To get a sense of what this show will be like, check out this Facebook album from last year’s Open Call Student Exhibition “I Know What You Did Last Summer.” And why not like our Facebook page while you’re there?

Although we hope to include a large group of students, admission to the exhibition is competitive. Incomplete or late submissions will NOT be considered, so please review your submission materials!
